In 2012, Dumaguete and the surrounding towns saw a boom in housing construction that is likely to continue in the next few years. Many of the new villages, apartments and subdivisions are located in the uptown barangays and in the largely residential areas of Piapi, Bantayan, Banilad, Bagacay, etc., far from the main roads so many are not aware that they're mushrooming all over the place.
